About this course
This course aims to familiarise participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply the principles of risk management as an integral part of an effective OHS management system under NSW OHS legislation.
Who should attend?
The OHS Act 2000 and OHS Regulation 2001 requires employers to provide appropriate training and instruction as necessary to fulfill OHS obligations. This course is designed for those requiring a general awareness of Risk Management principles in the workplace.
Course objectives
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Describe the general provisions of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation
- Outline the principles of an OHS Management System (OHSMS)
- Explain the principles of OHS risk management and continuous improvement
- Describe the provisions of Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation legislation
- Develop OHS policies as well as consultative mechanisms
Course content
- Define occupational health, safety and welfare
- Identify the legislation that governs occupational health and safety in NSW
- Identify the key elements of the OHS Act, 2000
- Explain the employers ‘Duty of Care’ responsibility
- Outline the role and responsibilities of supervisors/managers
- Outline the systematic management of OHS
- Describe the key elements of OHS Risk Management
- Define ‘safe systems of work’ and ‘continuous improvement’
- Discuss the aims of Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation
- Identify the key elements of injury management
- Explain the process of developing and implementing an OHS policy and programs
- Describe the consultative mechanisms available to supervisors and managers
- Describe the process of promoting, maintaining and improving OHSMS
- Discuss the key elements of the systems approach to OHS
Assessment
Assessment is informal and is through observation of participant contribution to discussion, short answer discussions and successful completion of training exercises and activities.
Qualification
Successful participants are issued with a certificate in OHS Risk Management for Supervisors and Managers
